When driving in a tunnel, visibility monitoring is extremely crucial. The interior of a tunnel is relatively enclosed with limited air exchange and is prone to being affected by various factors that can reduce visibility. Such situations as bad weather, the accumulation of vehicle exhaust fumes, and road dust can all cause the visibility inside the tunnel to deteriorate. Low visibility will seriously interfere with drivers' judgment of vehicle distances, road configurations, and traffic conditions, significantly increasing the probability of traffic accidents and posing a great threat to the lives and property safety of passengers and drivers.
In November 2019, in an extra-long tunnel on a mountainous area expressway, due to a sudden heavy rainstorm and a temporary malfunction of the tunnel's drainage system, a large amount of accumulated water formed water mist inside the tunnel, and the visibility dropped to an extremely low level instantaneously. A large truck fully loaded with goods, unable to clearly see the road conditions ahead, scraped against a normally traveling small passenger car when changing lanes. Subsequently, it triggered multiple vehicle collisions, causing the traffic to be paralyzed for several hours and leaving many people injured.
The Tunnel visibility detector FT - SDN1 can accurately monitor the visibility situation inside the tunnel. It transmits real-time data quickly to the monitoring center, enabling the management personnel to be promptly informed of the tunnel visibility information. Once the visibility falls below the safety standard, corresponding countermeasures can be immediately activated, such as turning on ventilation equipment to blow away smoke and water mist, and issuing traffic warning notices to passing vehicles, effectively reducing traffic accidents caused by poor visibility.
