How Negative Ion Sensor Transforms Our Understanding of Atmospheric Elements

In Wales, rain seems to be a frequent visitor. The UK has an average of 159 rainy days per year, while Wales has as many as 173 days. So far in 2024, there have been even more rainy days than sunny days. The never-ending rain often makes people feel gloomy. But do you know that going for a walk on a rainy day actually has many benefits?

Scientists have discovered that rain can make us happy and improve our mental health. When raindrops splash on the ground, some of the molecules that make up the air gain electrons and become negatively charged ions. It is believed that when people inhale these negative ions, it can relieve stress and boost energy levels. Dr. Bulma from Cardiff University explains that when raindrops hit the ground and break up, the water droplets become charged. If they are negatively charged, the extra electrons will be absorbed by molecules such as oxygen and carbon dioxide in the air, thus forming negative ions. Although the mechanism of its action is not yet fully understood, many studies have shown that inhaling negative ions has a positive impact on health, improving mood and treating seasonal affective disorder.

The existence of negative ion sensors enables us to have a better understanding of negative oxygen ions.

The FT-WQX5B type of negative ion sensor can continuously monitor negative oxygen ions, temperature and humidity, PM2.5 and PM10, and other meteorological elements online for 24 hours, and output these five parameters to users through a digital communication interface. It has strong stability, with a watchdog circuit and an automatic reset function, and excellent anti-interference capabilities; it is highly integrated with no moving parts, zero wear and maintenance-free, and is made of ASA engineering plastics that do not change color outdoors; it has rich output interfaces, with the RS485 communication interface (MODBUS protocol) as the standard configuration, and various other interfaces or wireless transmission modules can also be optionally equipped. The probe has a snap-on design to avoid loosening during transportation and installation. Its measurement range for negative oxygen ions is 0 - 100,000 per cubic centimeter, with a reading accuracy of ±10%, and it is widely used in many fields such as meteorology, urban environment, and navigation.

The FT-WQX10B type, based on the FT-WQX5B type, adds the detection of air pressure, oxygen content, noise, wind speed, and wind direction, realizing the integrated monitoring of ten meteorological elements. It also has characteristics such as strong stability and high integration, and rich output interfaces. Moreover, the probe has a snap-on design with a hidden ultrasonic probe on the top cover to avoid interference from rain, snow, and wind. In terms of technical parameters, while retaining some of the same parameters as the FT-WQX5B type, it adds multiple parameter indicators such as a wind speed range of 0 - 60 m/s, and is widely used in many fields.
