With the arrival of the rainy season, natural disasters such as heavy rainstorms and floods occur from time to time, posing a serious threat to people's lives and property. In the game against natural disasters, accurate rainfall monitoring is one of the key links, which can provide important original basis for meteorological forecasting, flood control and disaster reduction, etc.
At present, the main instruments for measuring rainfall include tipping bucket rain gauges, weighing rain gauges, and siphon rain gauges. However, these traditional rain gauges have some limitations. For example, the tipping bucket rain gauge will be affected in measurement accuracy when the rainfall intensity is too high or too low, and it requires regular maintenance; the weighing rain gauge is large in size and slow in response; the siphon rain gauge is easily affected by environmental temperature changes, and its use range is limited.
The emergence of piezoelectric rain sensors has brought a new solution to rainfall monitoring. Its working principle is the piezoelectric effect: when raindrops fall on the sensing surface of the rain gauge, they will produce tiny pressure changes, which are sensed by the piezoelectric element and converted into electrical signals. The strength of the electrical signal is related to the kinetic energy of the raindrop, and the kinetic energy of the raindrop is related to the size and speed of the raindrop. Therefore, by processing and analyzing the electrical signal, the rainfall can be accurately calculated.
As a new type of miniature intelligent rainfall sensor, the advantages of piezoelectric rain sensors are obvious.
First of all, it has high sensitivity, accurate to the fall of each raindrop, and can detect even the slightest drizzle, so as to realize real-time monitoring of the rainfall process.
Then there is the integrated design, no mechanical parts, no exposed components, simple and compact structure, which not only eliminates the interference of leaves, dust, insects and other factors, but also reduces the risk of failure, improves the stability and reliability of the equipment, and reduces the maintenance workload and maintenance costs.
Finally, it can not only measure the rainfall, but also monitor multi-dimensional information such as rainfall intensity and the start and end time of rainfall, providing more comprehensive original data for research and applications in meteorology, hydrology and other fields.
Piezoelectric rain sensors have a wide measurement range. They can accurately measure different intensities of precipitation such as light rain, moderate rain, heavy rain, and torrential rain, solving the problem of large measurement errors of traditional rain gauges under different rainfall intensities. At present, they are widely used in many fields such as meteorological monitoring, hydrology and water conservancy, agriculture, transportation, and environmental protection.

The development of Portable Weather Stations stems from the need for rapid, flexible, and temporary meteorological observations, applied in fields such as emergency disaster reduction, scientific expeditions, and military support to compensate for the shortcomings of fixed stations.Real-time meteoro...
The Integrated IoT Data Acquisition System for Agricultural Microclimates consists of five key components: meteorological sensors, a data collector, a solar power supply system, a pole-mounted bracket, and a cloud platform. It provides real-time monitoring of parameters such as air temperature...
In Wales, rain seems to be a frequent visitor. The UK has an average of 159 rainy days per year, while Wales has as many as 173 days. So far in 2024, there have been even more rainy days than sunny days. The never-ending rain often makes people feel gloomy. But do you know that going for a walk on a...
Microclimate refers to the special climate formed in the atmosphere of a local area, which is different from the macroclimate, due to differences in underlying surface factors such as surface properties, terrain, and vegetation. Compared with the macroclimate, the microclimate is closer to human pro...
