Tunnel spaces are relatively enclosed with limited ventilation. Exhaust emissions from large numbers of motor vehicles (especially diesel vehicles) contain significant amounts of suspended particles (such as soot, sulfates, etc.). Low visibility shortens drivers' visual distance, preventing them from timely detecting obstacles, accidents, or slow-moving vehicles ahead, which can easily trigger serious traffic accidents such as rear-end collisions and chain collisions. Therefore, to prevent traffic accidents, it is necessary to install visibility instruments in tunnels.
A Tunnel Visibility Detector is a professional instrument specifically designed for real-time, continuous, and automatic measurement of air visibility (or smoke concentration) inside tunnels.
Current mainstream Tunnel Visibility Detectors generally adopt the "forward scattering" measurement principle. Compared with traditional transmissive measurement, this method offers advantages such as simple installation and no need for long-distance precise alignment, providing 7x24 hours of uninterrupted visibility data.
In addition to basic visibility monitoring functions, modern Tunnel Visibility Detectors usually integrate monitoring capabilities for multiple environmental parameters, including carbon monoxide concentration, temperature, humidity, etc., enabling comprehensive monitoring of the tunnel environment.
These real-time collected data are transmitted to the monitoring center, providing tunnel management departments with timely and accurate environmental information. When visibility is detected below safety standards, the system can automatically issue alarms and can link with ventilation, lighting, and other equipment in the tunnel for corresponding adjustments.
