Highway tunnels, as special sections of the highway network, are a unique type of tubular structure. The internal space is relatively narrow, with drastic changes in light and poor visibility. Due to the significant difference in illumination inside and outside the tunnel, drivers are extremely vulnerable to the "black hole effect" and the "white hole effect" when entering and exiting the tunnel. Such sudden visual changes make it difficult for drivers to clearly distinguish the traffic conditions on the road surface, thus increasing the risk of traffic accidents.
Unlike the open and bright roads outside the tunnel, when vehicles pass through the tunnel, they need to go through the process of moving from a bright environment into a dark area and then from the dark area back to the bright environment. During this process, the driver's visual adaptation ability is challenged, and it is difficult to effectively identify the target objects inside the tunnel, resulting in visual obstacles and posing potential safety hazards for driving in the tunnel.
