Advection fog is a small-scale dense fog formed under conditions of high local air humidity, low temperature, and light wind. It is characterized by strong suddenness, regionality, and uneven concentration distribution. As visibility can plummet to tens of meters or even lower within a short period, it often leads to serious traffic accidents such as chain-reaction rear-end collisions and multi-vehicle crashes on highways, posing a huge threat to people's lives and property. According to data analysis, in 2023 alone, highway traffic accidents caused by advection fog in China resulted in over 100 casualties and tens of millions of yuan in economic losses. Therefore, effective actions must be taken to prevent the hazards of advection fog.
The key to avoiding traffic accidents caused by advection fog lies in detecting its occurrence in advance and taking timely traffic control measures. Thus, we introduce the Road Weather Station FT-NJD10, which achieves precise observation of visibility within a 10km range, serving as a tool to address the dangers of advection fog.
The FT-NJD10 Road Weather Station uses optical measurement technology. By reasonably arranging monitoring stations along roadways, it realizes high-precision and continuous observation of visibility. The monitoring principle is based on the propagation characteristics of light in the atmosphere. When advection fog appears, water vapor and tiny particles in the air scatter and absorb light, hindering its propagation. The system accurately calculates visibility values by measuring the degree of light attenuation.
Its advantage lies in the ability to detect signs of advection fog in advance. Once the monitored visibility drops below the preset threshold, it immediately triggers the early warning mechanism, transmitting advection fog information in real time to traffic management departments and road monitoring centers. Based on this information, traffic management departments can promptly take countermeasures, such as releasing advection fog warnings through electronic display screens to remind drivers to reduce speed and maintain safe distances, while adjusting the duration of traffic lights to guide vehicles safely through advection fog areas. For highway management parties, they can close some entrances in advance or implement speed limits according to the system's warnings to prevent vehicles from entering high-risk advection fog sections, thereby reducing the accident rate.
The automatic monitoring station of ambient air quality can conduct real-time online monitoring of pollution factors in the air, and can provide data feedback through a large screen or display data through the user data statistics port. The monitoring items include the four gases and two dusts inclu...
Visibility can be measured by visual observation, relying on manual inspection to estimate the visibility distance based on whether a certain reference object is visible. This method is simple and intuitive, but it is highly subjective and has poor standardization and objectivity. We recommend using...
Drizzle is a precipitation phenomenon characterized by fine and gentle raindrops with a relatively small precipitation amount. The monitoring of rainfall is mainly achieved by measuring the precipitation amount per unit area within a unit of time.Meteorologically, the precipitation amount is usually...
In canal shipping, visibility is a key factor affecting the safety of ship navigation. Weather conditions such as fog, haze, rain, and snow can reduce visibility on canals, making it difficult for ship drivers to clearly identify waterways, navigation marks, and other ships, increasing the risk of a...
